Partnership & Grantee Highlights
Northeast Organic Farming Association (NOFA-VT)
Building resiliency for farms and producers focused on pollinator-friendly practices
Northeast Organic Farming Association of Vermont (NOFA-VT) used One Hive funding to support a grassroots organizer position to further their Policy Program’s goals and to provide Resilience Grants to farms and producers focused on pollinator-friendly practices. Past resilience grants have distributed culturally important foods and taught the next generation about food sovereignty.
As part of their efforts for a thriving food and farming system, NOFA-VT has long advocated for ending toxic pesticides in agriculture. Recently, they partnered on a successful state campaign to pass legislation phasing out neonicotinoids (a class of pesticides highly toxic to bees and other pollinators) in agriculture by 2029, providing important educational information and policy advice.
In 2024, NOFA-VT also secured public investment in critical food access programs that support local farms while feeding Vermonters. NOFA-VT is expanding its policy with the Grassroots Policy Organizer and training their staff, board, and member leaders on power building and organizing. In 2023, NOFA-VT established a policy steering committee made up of members directly impacted by their work to lead policy campaigns that build their base’s power, shift public narratives, and win durable change for Vermont farms and communities.
