The Foundation for the Preservation of the Honey Bees
The Foundation for the Preservation of the Honey Bees’ mission is to preserve and protect honey bees to ensure a quality food supply and environment. It funds research and educational endeavors within the beekeeping industry. The Foundation hosts a scholarship fund, awarding four scholarships to apiculture graduate students studying any aspect of honey bees, bee husbandry, and/or the apiculture industry. The purpose is to foster the professional development of emerging apicultural scientists. The recipients are invited to attend, with expenses paid, the annual American Beekeeping Federation Conference and Tradeshow.
Its Kids and Bees program is designed to educate the next generation of citizens on the importance of bees and inspire them to participate in their preservation. Each year, at the annual American Beekeeping Federation Conference and Tradeshow, they host a half-day event with educational and entertaining stations for local children.
The Foundation also sponsors a 4-H Essay Contest, which had 18 candidates this past year. The Foundation Trustees annually select a topic about honey bees or some aspect of beekeeping, and each state is allowed to submit one entrant. The top three winners receive a small cash prize along with a book on honey, honey bees, or beekeeping.
