University of Minnesota
The University of Minnesota’s Department of Entomology recently announced the establishment of a Honey Bee Faculty Endowed Chair. The One Hive Foundation was pleased to be part of a coalition of donors, including the Manitou Fund and the Minnesota Honey Producers Association, that created this Endowed Chair. This position will provide perpetual funding for a faculty member dedicated to honey bee research, fostering innovative research, educational programs, and initiatives to promote healthy bees.
The endowment will ensure permanentsupport for a faculty member specifically focused on advancing honey bee research. The University of Minnesota Bee Research Lab, recognized globally for its work on bee health and sustainable beekeeping practices, will benefit significantly from this position. Through this endowed chair, the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences (CFANS), the Department of Entomology, and the Bee Lab aim to secure long-term support for essential honey bee research.
The new Honey Bee Faculty Chair honors Dr. Marla Spivak, a renowned honey bee researcher, who will retire at the end of 2024.
